The Catchment Dispatch
Roughly monthly, written by whoever was standing in the river that week. Field notes, monitoring results and the occasional setback — no appeal unless something is urgent.

What you get
One email a month, occasionally two if something happens. Usually a field report, the quarter’s monitoring numbers when they are in, and what is coming up.
What you do not get
Your address shared with anybody, for any reason. A donation appeal every time. A newsletter that is really a fundraising email with a photograph attached.
Unsubscribing
One click, at the bottom of every email. No confirmation page and no attempt to talk you out of it.

Past editions are published here once the first has gone out. We keep them public so you can see what you are signing up to before you hand over an address.

What is in a typical issue
Four things, in roughly this order. An issue with nothing to report is a shorter issue rather than a padded one, and in a quiet month it does not go out at all.
It is written by a field officer and checked against the monitoring record before it is sent, which is why an account of a planting day sometimes arrives a fortnight after the planting day.
A field report
One site, what happened there, and who was involved. Usually the longest item and the reason most people stay subscribed.
The quarter's numbers, when they are in
Readings from the six monitoring points and survival counts from sites that have reached six or twelve months. Including the ones that went the wrong way.
What is coming up
Planting days and public sessions, with the caveat that dates move with the rains. Subscribers hear before the events page is updated.
One thing we got wrong
Not in every issue, because we do not manufacture them. When there is one, it goes in rather than waiting for an annual report nobody reads.
How often, honestly
Roughly monthly, occasionally twice if something has happened, and sometimes not at all. The two planting windows generate most of the traffic; the months between them are quiet and we would rather send nothing than fill them.
Double opt-in
You confirm by clicking a link in a first email before anything else is sent. It means nobody can subscribe you to this, and it means the list is made of people who chose to be on it.
Why the archive is public
Past issues are published on this site rather than kept for subscribers. Withholding them would make an email address the price of finding out what the email contains, and an organisation asking to be trusted with monitoring data should not be running that trade. Editions appear here from the first one sent.
